The Principal Magistrate in Kenema, Hadiru Daboh of Magistrate Court No. 1, has sentenced eighteen individuals to the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) in Kenema for frequenting, contrary to Section 49(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 1988.
According to court records, the eighteen suspects were found on Monday, 14 July 2025, frequenting a place used for smoking Cannabis sativa and other narcotic drugs. Seventeen of the accused pleaded guilty and requested mercy. They were each sentenced to three months’ imprisonment at SLCS Kenema City. One accused, Prince Tarmoh, pleaded not guilty and was remanded, with the case adjourned to 23 July 2025 for further hearing.
It is alleged that most of the convicts are repeat offenders who were recently released following a previous court sitting in Kenema.
The case was prosecuted by Police Inspector Alphan Samuel Musa from the Legal and Justice Support Department, Kenema Division. The eighteen accused were represented by defense counsel Peter Thomas Vincent.
In an interview, Inspector Musa stated that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to others who might engage in similar offenses. He emphasized the police’s firm commitment to combating drug-related crimes within the city.
