In a dramatic late-night raid that stunned residents of Rokupa and Red Pump, police officers from the Kissy Division have dismantled a major counterfeit money operation and arrested multiple suspects linked to a dangerous criminal network.
The operation began when law enforcement stormed a residence in the Rokupa community suspected to be the hub of illegal money printing. Upon arrival, the main suspect refused to open his door and attempted to evade arrest by ignoring repeated calls to surrender. His defiance forced officers to break into the premises where they arrested him along with two other men identified as Abdul Lamin Sesay and Joseph Kabia.
Inside the building, officers discovered a blower machine believed to be used for drying counterfeit currency and stacks of fake money. The breakthrough came when the arrested suspect revealed that his superior was operating an even larger and more sophisticated counterfeiting setup in the Red Pump area.
Acting swiftly on the new tip, police moved into Red Pump where they made a second stunning discovery. Hidden inside the residence were counterfeit twenty Leone notes, a Glock 22 black pistol, and forty rounds of live ammunition. Another suspect, Umur B Kamara, was taken into custody at the scene.
All suspects and the seized items were immediately transported to the Kissy Division for further investigation. Police officials say this bust is one of the most significant in recent times and may expose an organized network operating within and beyond Freetown.
The presence of a loaded firearm along with industrial-level printing materials has raised fears that this operation may have links to wider criminal activities including armed robbery and financial fraud.
The Operations Officer at Kissy Division confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that more arrests may follow. Authorities are calling on the public to stay alert, especially when handling large cash transactions, and to report any suspicious activity or counterfeit currency.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community as residents grapple with the reality that such a high-level criminal operation was unfolding in their midst. Police are determined to get to the root of the syndicate and bring all those involved to justice.
