A press release from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists has informed the general public that the organization has resolved the matter between journalist Thomas Dixon and the Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu.

In a meeting witnessed by Thomas Dixon, SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, former SLAJ President Umaru Fofana, and senior journalist and lecturer Dr. Isaac Massaquoi, the IGP assured everyone that Thomas Dixon’s safety and security were not threatened.

Earlier, Dixon, on a notice, informed the public that he had gone into hiding after receiving a text from the IGP saying, “Thomas, you have crossed the red line.” Adding that the threat from the IGP came after he “critiqued” what he “believed as the unnecessary use of orders from above to keep people in detention.”

Dixon also mentioned feeling further threatened after receiving a call from the SLAJ President, who advised him to leave his residence since the IGP planned to have him arrested.

Following today’s meeting, the misunderstanding was clarified, and Dixon agreed to voluntarily delete a Facebook post in which he described the IGP as arrogant.
