Ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has condemned violent clashes that disrupted its recent executive elections, particularly in Tonkolili District, where reports indicate that houses and valuables were destroyed amid intense confrontations.
While elections proceeded smoothly in many areas, incidents of intimidation and unrest have raised serious concerns within the party.
In a statement issued on 9th February, 2025, signed by National Secretary-General Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the SLPP reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and vowed to hold those responsible accountable.

“Our sincere sympathy goes out to those affected, and we assure them that justice will be served,” the statement read.
Earlier, tensions flared during the party’s lower-level elections in Mile 91, where supporters of rival candidates for the Tonkolili District chairmanship engaged in violent clashes. SLPP’s Tonkolili Secretary-General, Robert Salia Kamara, has been reported confirming the violence, which led to homes being set on fire.
A video circulating on social media shows a house engulfed in flames, reportedly belonging to former Regent Chief Yusif Barrie, also known as Atatie.
The SLPP leadership has strongly condemned the violence and pledged a thorough investigation to ensure accountability. Meanwhile, the party is calling on all members to uphold discipline and unity as it moves forward.
