Journalist Melvin Tejan Mansaray has publicly apologized to the Speaker and the entire Parliament of Sierra Leone following his appearance before the Privileges and Ethics Committee on Tuesday, 4th March 2025.
The hearing, held at Committee Room One in Parliament Building, Freetown, addressed allegations of Contempt of Parliament related to statements he made during a January 1, 2025, interview on Radio Democracy 98.1 FM.
Mansaray had previously been declared persona non grata and barred from Parliament for remarks deemed damaging to the institution’s image and dignity. In his written apology, which he read during the public hearing, he expressed deep regret for his statements.
“On the consideration that the Honourable Speaker and some Members of Parliament have felt aggrieved, I hereby profusely tender my unreserved apology and undertake to publicly withdraw my statement”, he stated.
Following his apology and formal withdrawal of the remarks, the Committee decided not to pursue the matter further and adjourned the hearing sine die (indefinitely).
