SLFA Referees Committee Concludes Review of Two League Matches

Must Read

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Referees Committee has completed its review of two league matches following formal complaints from participating teams.

A press release dated March 12, 2025, from the SLFA stated that the matches under review were Bo Rangers vs. East End Lions FC and Wusum Stars vs. Bai Bureh Warriors.

In the Bo Rangers vs. East End Lions FC fixture, East End Lions FC filed a complaint regarding a denied penalty call. After a comprehensive review of video footage and available evidence, the committee concluded that referee Rashid Mohamed Conteh made an incorrect decision by failing to award a penalty in favor of East End Lions FC.

The decision was classified as a human error, and as a result, Mr. Conteh has been suspended for one month, effective 22 February, 2025.

In the case of Wusum Stars vs. Bai Bureh Warriors, Bai Bureh Warriors protested against Assistant Referee 2 (AR2) for disallowing a goal they believed to be legitimate. However, after a thorough evaluation, the committee upheld the decisions made by the match officials, affirming that both AR2 and the center referee acted within the rules of the game.

The SLFA Referees Committee reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in football officiating. It emphasized that regular reviews of officiating decisions are crucial for maintaining high refereeing standards and safeguarding the integrity of the game.
