Koidu Holdings Suspends Operations Amid Unresolved Industrial Dispute

Must Read

Koidu Holdings Limited has announced the immediate suspension of its mining operations, citing unresolved industrial action that has severely impacted the company’s ability to maintain production.

In a formal letter dated 25th March 2025 addressed to the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, the company stated that it is transitioning into a “care and maintenance” phase in accordance with the Mines and Minerals Act of 2022.

According to Koidu Holdings, the ongoing industrial action is unlawful, as it violates key provisions of the Industrial Relations and Trade Union Act of 2024. The company asserts that employees and their union representatives failed to follow proper legal procedures for initiating a strike, thereby rendering their actions noncompliant with the law.

Additionally, Koidu Holdings reports that employees willing to return to work are facing threats and intimidation, preventing them from exercising their lawful right to employment.

The company further stated that, despite multiple attempts to resolve the dispute through the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, no resolution has been reached.

Koidu Holdings has expressed concern over what it describes as external political interference, notably from First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, who allegedly advised workers against returning to work.

In its letter, the company requested urgent intervention from the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources to restore lawful working conditions and ensure compliance with statutory provisions. Koidu Holdings emphasized its willingness to cooperate with authorities and engage constructively in discussions to resolve the ongoing crisis.
