Legal Aid Board & AG Discuss Access to Justice

Executive Director of Legal Aid Board (LAB), Ms. Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles on Wednesday 26th March 2025, along with a cross-section of staff, met with the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, and his deputy, Madam Saptieu Elizabeth Saccoh, at the Guma Building.

They discussed a range of issues related to the Board’s Tenth Anniversary and programmes aimed at strengthening access to justice mechanisms.

During the briefing on the Tenth Anniversary, the Board’s Human Resources Manager, Ibrahim Bangura Esq, outlined the series of events already planned by the Board. These include a fitness walk scheduled for Saturday 5th April; a Football Gala from 14th to 24th April at Kingtom Field; Town hall/community outreach events from 24th April to 14th May; a Float Parade on 12th May; an Anniversary Celebration on 15th May, and Thanksgiving Prayers on Friday, 16th and Sunday, 18th May.

In response, the Attorney General thanked the Executive Director and her team, expressing full support from his office for the process. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Information and Civic Education would be involved in the celebrations.

The Attorney General highlighted plans to make the celebrations more visible through social media and other publicity materials. He briefed the Legal Aid Board team on his initiatives, which include efforts to decongest correctional centers, minimize the number of people coming into contact with the law, and digitalize the entire justice sector.
