Parliament Passes Professional Social Workers Regulatory Council Act 2025

Freetown, Sierra Leone — The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, unanimously passed into law the Professional Social Workers Regulatory Council Act 2025, following a series of debates and amendments.

The newly enacted legislation establishes the Professional Social Workers Regulatory Council, which will be responsible for regulating professional social workers, social work facilities, organizations, and institutions across the country. Its mandate includes licensing, registration, and disciplinary oversight, among other related functions aimed at strengthening the social welfare sector.

The bill was introduced and piloted by the Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karminty.
