Freetown, June 16, 2025 — Acting on a tip from concerned residents, the Harbour Police Division carried out a targeted operation on Monday in the Bagdad area of Moeba Community, dismantling what authorities described as a suspected criminal hideout.

Led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Francis M. Tommy, the operation uncovered an abandoned, unfinished building believed to have been used for criminal activities, including theft and drug use, particularly kush.

In a decisive move, police officers burned the structure’s makeshift roof to prevent further use of the site and disrupt ongoing illegal activity. The Sierra Leone Police media team confirmed the action, describing it as part of wider efforts to tackle organized crime and drug abuse in urban communities.

Residents of Moeba welcomed the raid, expressing relief and a renewed sense of safety. Many had long viewed the structure as a hotspot for criminal activity.

ASP Tommy reaffirmed the police’s commitment to identifying and dismantling similar hideouts and called on the public to remain engaged by reporting suspicious activity in their communities.
