Freetown, Sierra Leone – Government officials have finalized a new agreement with Turkish energy company Karpowership, securing continued electricity supply and extending the existing contract by one year.

Under the deal, Karpowership will deliver 25 megawatts (MW) of electricity during the rainy season and increase output to 45MW during the dry months. This comes after weeks of tension sparked by a disconnection notice issued in late May over unpaid bills.
As part of the settlement, both parties agreed to restructure the outstanding debt owed by Sierra Leone, though specific terms were not disclosed in the joint statement released on July 1.
Energy officials thanked Karpowership for what they described as a shared commitment to accessible and reliable electricity. They emphasized that this resolution reflects strong cooperation and a focus on long-term energy stability.
Karpowership and the Ministry of Energy also reiterated their mutual dedication to supporting Sierra Leone’s national development agenda and ensuring progress in the energy sector.
