Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on 14 August 2025 announced the indictment of Abu Kamara, former Finance Manager at the Customs Department of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), on nine counts of possession of unexplained wealth.
Charges, filed under Section 27(1)(b) of the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 as amended in 2019, allege that Kamara acquired assets far exceeding his legitimate earnings.
According to the ACC, between March 1, 2019, and June 31, 2025, Kamara, who earned an annual net salary of Le 152,790, accumulated multiple properties, vehicles, and a registered business without lawful justification.
The assets include several plots of land in Gloucester Village, a one-storey property in Black Johnson, multi-storey buildings in Ogoo Farm and Babadorie Hills, and UK Trading Mini Mart SL Ltd, which operates branches in Freetown and Bo.
Investigators also cite the purchase of a Nissan vehicle for Le 60,000 and a Hyundai Jeep for Le 300,000. The Commission says these holdings are grossly disproportionate to Kamara’s declared income.
He is currently at large, and the ACC has announced plans to pursue a trial in absentia in accordance with Section 89(7)(a) of the 2019 Anti-Corruption Amendment Act.
