Visa Fees Scrapped for Africans Traveling to Burkina Faso

Must Read

Burkina Faso has scrapped entry visa fees for all African nationals, making travel to the country more accessible across the continent. The new policy requires visitors to complete an online application and obtain approval before arrival, but no payment is needed.

Until now, a tourist visa cost nearly $100 (55,000 CFA francs), while a business visa was priced at about $165 (93,500 CFA francs).

Security Minister Mahamadou Sana said the decision aligns with the pan-Africanist vision of interim president Ibrahim Traoré, aimed at reinforcing historic ties among African nations. He noted that the measure is also intended to promote tourism, highlight Burkinabe culture, and enhance the country’s visibility internationally.

Sana clarified that while the fees have been waived, visas remain mandatory. Africans must still apply for and obtain valid documents before entering Burkina Faso.
