SLAJ Backs Lamrana Bah After Online Threats

Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has expressed firm support for journalist Amadu Lamrana Bah, presenter of Morning Devotion on Truth Radio, after he became the target of online threats circulating on social media.

A video allegedly featuring Madam Admire Bio and another unidentified voice making threats and using abusive language toward Bah surfaced over the weekend. The incident reportedly followed Bah’s public remarks about the growing crisis of Kush, a dangerous drug devastating Sierra Leone’s youth.

Bah, a respected media professional, is the co-founder of Truth Media Sierra Leone and a former President of the Sierra Leone Reporters Union. He is known for advocating better working conditions for reporters and for his digital media expertise. In 2019, he was named Male Personality of the Year at the AWOL National Achievement Awards and has received multiple honors from both the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and SLAJ for his outstanding journalism.

In a statement issued Tuesday, SLAJ condemned the threats as a direct attack on press freedom and the safety of journalists. The Association described the incident as “deeply troubling” and urged the Sierra Leone Police to conduct a swift and thorough investigation.

“We are deeply disturbed by this report. Threats against journalists are unacceptable and must be treated with the utmost seriousness,” said SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara.

SLAJ emphasized that press freedom and freedom of expression are protected under Sections 11 and 25(1) of the 1991 Constitution, which recognize the media’s role in ensuring transparency and accountability in public life.

The Association appealed to citizens, public officials, and political actors to show restraint and respect for journalists’ work, promoting tolerance in public debate.

“An attack on one journalist is an attack on every Sierra Leonean’s right to know,” Kamara added, reaffirming SLAJ’s solidarity with Bah and its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of journalists across the country.
