APC’s Ibrahim Bangura Launches 2028 Bid

Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, on Friday, officially declared his intention to contest for the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections, receiving a colorful reception from party supporters in Bo District.

The event drew crowds from across the south, with traditional music, cultural displays, and jubilant celebrations marking his entry into the race.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bangura recalled his early political days, including his role in reviving the APC student union at Fourah Bay College after the 1992 coup. He told supporters his campaign would focus on restoring unity and discipline within the party.

“I am seeking the leadership of the APC because I have the capacity to unite this party. Without peace and discipline, it will be difficult for us to win in 2028. I want to restore respect for party structures and encourage members to work together,” he said.

He acknowledged the contributions of senior figures such as Dr. Samura Kamara, while cautioning that unresolved disputes and internal divisions could weaken the APC’s chances of victory.

Dr. Bangura further emphasized the importance of consolidating support in the South-East. “The APC needs the full support of the South-East, not just as an add-on but as a key pillar to victory. Without that support, returning to power will be extremely difficult,” he stressed.

Moving beyond party politics, he called for a culture of cooperation between the APC and the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), adding that Sierra Leone can only move forward if the two major political parties work in the national interest.

Outlining his broader vision for national development, Dr. Bangura highlighted priorities such as reliable electricity, clean water, affordable food, better schools, improved roads, and stronger social services.

He ended his speech by thanking supporters in the south for what he described as a “warm embrace,” urging members to put aside personal differences, resentment, and infighting in the interest of party unity.
