The Sierra Leone Bar Association (SLBA) has written to the Freetown City Council (FCC) requesting an update on the investigation into the alleged fraudulent registration of The Law Society of Sierra Leone.
In an official letter dated 7th March 2025 and signed by SLBA Public Relations Officer, Alfred Kamanda Esq., the association addressed Her Worship Yvonne Aki-Sawyer, Mayor of Freetown, expressing concern over the absence of public updates on the investigation’s findings, despite the issue being flagged four months ago.

While quoting a letter dated 30th October 2024, SLBA reminded FCC that the council had previously questioned the authenticity of the Lawyers’ Society’s registration certificate, stating that signatures of key officials appeared forged and that the document lacked the proper format and security features of an official FCC certificate.
Kamanda emphasized that the continued silence on the investigation has fueled speculation and public distrust in the legal profession.

The SLBA also took issue with the Mayor’s presence at a gathering of the Lawyers’ Society, stating that it could be interpreted as an endorsement of the disputed entity or an attempt to undermine the credibility of the investigation.
Citing the Right to Access Information Act 2013, the SLBA urged the FCC to provide a clear update on the status of the investigation, assuring the public of transparency and accountability in handling the matter.
