The Bo City Council has banned the use of Bluetooth speakers and Megaphones in public places as part of efforts to curb noise pollution.

In a public notice issued on 25 February 2025, the Council stated: “In the interest of maintaining public peace and preventing disturbances, the public is hereby notified that the use of Bluetooth speakers and megaphones in public places is strictly prohibited.”

The public notice further explained: “This measure by the council is to curb noise pollution and ensure a peaceful environment for all residents, businesses, and institutions.

“Any individual or group found violating this directive shall be subject to a fine or other legal action.”

Noise pollution, which is caused by excessive or disruptive noise in public areas, has been shown to have harmful effects on both physical and mental health. Prolonged exposure to high noise levels can lead to stress, hearing impairment, sleep disturbances, and even cardiovascular problems.

Also, noise pollution can disrupt concentration and hinder productivity, especially in environments such as schools, offices, and healthcare facilities. It can also negatively impact community wellbeing, causing irritation and anxiety among residents, and contributing to a decline in the overall quality of life.

By implementing this ban, the Council aims to reduce these negative impacts, creating a more harmonious living environment for all residents. The initiative is designed to foster a peaceful atmosphere for both individuals and businesses while ensuring the long-term health and wellbeing of the community.
