Freetown, Sierra Leone, March 2025 – Christian Alpha Conteh has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) in the upcoming June 2025 elections.
With over 12 years of experience in journalism, Conteh has built a distinguished career spanning various roles, including broadcast personnel, reporter, newsroom head, and editor-in-chief for multiple publications. His work has earned him several awards for excellence in reporting on the environment, education, gender-based violence, and economic issues.
As a Project Officer for SLAJ’s “Countering Disinformation in Sierra Leone’s 2023 Electoral Cycle” initiative, he played a pivotal role in strengthening fact-checking practices and reinforcing SLAJ’s position as a trusted source of factual and reliable information. Through training and capacity-building sessions across all regions, he has been instrumental in enhancing media integrity in Sierra Leone.
A dedicated SLAJ member for seven years, Conteh has consistently contributed to the association’s growth, actively participating in its activities and assisting the Secretariat during demanding periods. His commitment to press freedom and freedom of speech is evident through his investigative reporting under the hashtag #TheUntoldStories.
In outlining his leadership approach, Conteh stated:
“Over the years, I have successfully combined the radicalism of Umaru Fofanah, the slow but sure methods of Kelvin Lewis, and the diplomacy of Ahmed Sahid Nasralla.”
Following his nomination, Conteh has pledged to unveil his vision for building on the outgoing executive’s achievements, addressing existing gaps, and ensuring a vibrant and efficient Secretariat.
