Dutch Journalist Released After Police Interrogation in Sierra Leone

A press release dated 13 February 2025 from the Media and Public Relations Department of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has confirmed the release of Dutch journalist Sophie van Leeuwen after an interrogation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, Pademba Road, Freetown.

The SLP stated that van Leeuwen was questioned regarding her activities in the country and cooperated fully with the investigation. Following the interrogation, she was released and allowed to continue her work.

In its statement, the police reiterated their commitment to press freedom, public safety, and the rule of law. However, no further details were provided regarding the reasons for her questioning.
