Fire Breaks Out at Sierra Leone State House

A fire erupted at the State House in Central Freetown on the afternoon of Saturday, 12th April 2025, triggering an immediate response from the National Fire Force and other security agencies.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, the blaze started at approximately 4:00 p.m. on the 4th floor of the West Wing and later spread to the 3rd floor. Firefighters were deployed immediately and, as of 7:30 p.m., efforts to contain and extinguish the flames were ongoing.

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities confirmed that the fire has so far been limited to the upper floors and has not affected the 2nd floor, which houses the Office of the President. Emergency teams are working to ensure the area remains secure and protected.

Multiple agencies, including the Office of National Security, the Sierra Leone Police, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, and the Guma Valley Water Company, are actively involved in the emergency response.

Government officials have urged the public to remain calm and follow official channels for verified updates as the situation continues to unfold.
