Footballer Jailed for Stealing Phone in Court

Local footballer Abdul Sesay has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing a mobile phone belonging to Bakisa Massaquoi, registrar of the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1.

The incident occurred on 16 September 2025 at the court premises, where Abdul stole a silver Samsung Galaxy A15 valued at twelve thousand new Leones.

Appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah, Abdul admitted to the charge of larceny under Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Mabel Tarawalie, told the court that Abdul had confessed in both his caution and charge statements and was not a first-time offender.

He had previously served a jail term and was granted a presidential pardon earlier this year.

Despite his plea for leniency, Magistrate Jah stressed the seriousness of the offense, especially as it was committed on judicial grounds, and noted Abdul’s criminal record.

“The defendant is not a first-time offender. He has previously served time and was granted a presidential pardon. Given the circumstances, I am imposing a custodial sentence,” Magistrate Jah ruled.
