The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has joined the nation in mourning the passing and subsequent burial of Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh Kamara, a respected jurist, academic, and former journalist, who was laid to rest on Sunday, 20th July 2025, at Congo Town Cemetery in Freetown.
On Friday, 18th July, a SLAJ delegation led by its President, Alhaji Manika Kamara, paid a condolence visit to the family at their residence on Water Street to express solidarity and pay tribute to a man described as ‘a beacon of wisdom and service’.
Dr. Francis Sowa, National Coordinator of the Media Reform Coordinating Group (MRCG) and a member of the delegation, hailed Dr. Binneh Kamara as a mentor and an intellectual force who deeply impacted lives across various professional spheres.
In his heartfelt tribute, SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara reflected on the late jurist’s journalistic roots and untiring support for people and truth.
“He was more than a renowned legal mind, academic, and leader. Dr. Binneh was once one of us in the media. He believed in people and was always willing to help others succeed,” said the SLAJ President.
Members of the Kamara family expressed gratitude for SLAJ’s visit, proudly acknowledging the late Justice’s lifelong commitment to education, public service, and national progress.
“He valued education above all else. That legacy will continue to inspire generations,” a family member shared.
Dr. Abou Bhakarr Binneh Kamara was interred with dignity and honour on Sunday in the presence of family, friends, students, colleagues, and dignitaries from the legal, academic, and media fraternities.
May his soul rest in perfect peace.
