The Ministry of Energy has expressed deep sorrow following a tragic accident in Kambia on Friday, March 14th, 2025, which resulted in the death of one contractor and left another seriously injured.
The two contractors, Abu Kamara and Abdulai Mustapha, were employed by CL Group Limited and were working on the installation of transmission lines when the incident occurred.
While stringing transmission lines, the pole they were working on collapsed, causing both men to fall. Tragically, Abu Kamara lost his life in the accident, while Abdulai Mustapha sustained serious injuries. Abdulai is currently receiving treatment at Connaught Hospital in Freetown and is reported to be responding well to care.
The Ministry of Energy has conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Abu Kamara, as well as to CL Group Limited, expressing regret for the loss of life and its serious concerns regarding workplace safety.
In a statement, the Ministry clarified that CL Group Limited had been awarded a contract in August 2020 for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of transmission and distribution networks in Kambia Town.
The Ministry emphasized that all procedural requirements were met when the contract was awarded, and that it was in full compliance with safety regulations.
To address the circumstances of the incident, the Ministry of Energy has committed to launching a thorough investigation to determine if the poles used in the project were of adequate quality and met the specifications outlined in the contract.
The investigation will aim to ensure that all safety protocols and standards are upheld in future operations.
The Ministry reassured the public that it remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of both workers and the general population, and will take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
