The Kissy Police Division has inaugurated a newly constructed Investigations Office (I-Branch) during a ceremony held at the Dr Mohamed Tunde Macarthy Hall in Kissy.
The facility is designed to strengthen the Division’s investigative work by providing a more professional and conducive environment for handling criminal cases, while also fostering closer ties between the police and the community.
Local Unit Commander (LUC), CSP Eric Murana Kamara, thanked Dr Mohamed Tunde Macarthy for financing the project, noting that he had previously supported the construction of several police facilities within the Division’s jurisdiction. CSP Kamara said the intervention reflects the vision of Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, to transform the Sierra Leone Police from a force into a service-driven institution. He added that the new office has already boosted morale among officers.

Handing over the building, Dr Macarthy, a US-based medical doctor and lecturer, explained that his support was motivated by a commitment to national service and community development. He pointed to his broader contributions, including the construction of mosques, provision of water wells, and support to the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). “I don’t direct my support to individuals but towards initiatives that benefit communities,” he said, urging others to invest in community-focused projects.
Deputy Regional Commander Freetown-East, ACP Patrick Lahai Dumbuya, delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Inspector General. He expressed appreciation to Dr Macarthy and emphasized that community partnership remains central to effective policing. “When the police work hand-in-hand with the people, the burden becomes lighter and the outcomes more successful,” ACP Dumbuya said, describing Dr Macarthy’s efforts as a model of international standards in community service.

The Kissy Division Local Police Partnership Board (LPPB) presented Dr Macarthy with a plaque, a picture frame, a commemorative T-shirt, and the title of Honorary Adviser in recognition of his contributions. Community leaders, including Alhaji Algassimu Sesay, Alhaji Nabieu Kajue (widely known as Pinco), Chief Alhaji Hassan Kamara, and Mammy Haja Turay, also commended his support.
The event ended with the symbolic cutting of the ribbon to officially open the new I-Branch office.
