In the early hours of Monday, 17th March 2025, a fire broke out at Rock Lane, Brookfields, Freetown, causing huge damage to property worth millions of Leones. Fortunately, there were no fatalities or casualties.
According to a victim, Kenneth Conteh, a chef and event planner, the fire was first spotted by neighbors while he and his family were asleep. Upon waking up, he found that the fire had engulfed the entire structure, leaving them with nothing.
He mentioned that the Fire Force did not arrive early and that it was only the community members who battled the flames for several hours before the fire force arrived. Their efforts prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and helped bring the situation under control.
The victim further stated that the fire is believed to have started due to suspected fluctuations in the electricity supply, though investigations are still ongoing.
He called on the government and fire fighters to implement emergency precautionary measures to handle such situations promptly. Kenneth also appealed to humanitarian organizations and National Disaster Management Agency for support to help him and his family bounce back in due course.
