NRA Closes Dangote Cement in Sierra Leone for Unpaid Taxes

Must Read

Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority (NRA) has shut down the operations of Dangote Cement (SL) Ltd over an outstanding tax liability amounting to $653,300.

In a notice issued on Monday, August 25, 2025, the Authority’s Public Affairs and Tax Education Unit stated that the debt stems from unpaid Freight Levy charges dating back to 2020.

The enforcement was carried out by the Non-Tax Revenue Department, led by Commissioner Tom Vandy, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner for Non-Tax Revenue and the Compliance Unit of the Domestic Tax Department.

As part of the operation, officials sealed the company’s Administrative Office, Control Room, and Production Room, effectively halting all activities at the site.

The Authority emphasized that the closure demonstrates its firm stance on tax enforcement and its commitment to ensuring compliance from all taxpayers, including major corporations.
