Freetown, 16 May 2025 — The National Revenue Authority (NRA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) are strengthening their collaboration to improve domestic revenue mobilization in Sierra Leone.
In a meeting held on 14 May, NRA leadership engaged with UNDP Resident Representative Fredrick Ampiah and his team to explore new strategies for increasing revenue collection. The talks focused on key areas such as tax reform, taxpayer education, and enhanced compliance efforts to expand the country’s fiscal space.
NRA Commissioner General Jeneba J. Bangura expressed appreciation for UNDP’s ongoing support, especially in procurement and efforts to make tax administration more accessible to the informal sector through public-private dialogues and the implementation of the Block Management System (BMS).

She also requested further support for capacity building in asset management, the provision of containerized tax offices in remote areas, and infrastructure to improve service delivery nationwide.
Additional areas highlighted for potential UNDP support included sustainable power solutions for the NRA’s ICT infrastructure, training in specialized areas of tax administration, capacity development in climate financing and blue economy taxation, and research on revenue mobilization.
Both institutions underscored the importance of domestic revenue as a foundation for funding essential public services and driving long-term economic growth.

The meeting ended with a joint commitment to develop a tailored action plan rooted in international best practices. This renewed partnership is seen as a key step toward financing Sierra Leone’s Sustainable Development Goals and building a more resilient economy.
