Freetown, Wednesday, April 30, 2025— The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has called for enhanced communication and coordination with the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament to ensure more effective and transparent engagement with taxpayers.
This follows the PAC’s recent public notice summoning approximately 120 taxpayers to a parliamentary hearing over alleged outstanding tax arrears for the 2024 financial year. The same notice also invited a technical team from the NRA to attend the session held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.
In a statement, the NRA clarified that it had not received prior official communication from the PAC regarding the updated status of the taxpayers listed. During the proceedings, it emerged that the majority of the summoned taxpayers had already settled their obligations after the end of 2024 and presented proof of compliance during the meeting.
The NRA emphasized that, in line with standard procedure, a list of delinquent taxpayers is submitted annually to the Accountant General at the Ministry of Finance as part of the year-end financial reporting and audit process. The data for the 2024 financial year had been duly submitted to the relevant authorities.
While recognizing Parliament’s oversight role, the NRA underscored the importance of coordination in maintaining public trust and promoting voluntary compliance. “We would always encourage that coordination and communication be considered when dealing with our revered taxpayers and main clientele in domestic revenue mobilization,” the Authority noted.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and transparency, the NRA commended compliant taxpayers for their continued contributions to national development and urged any individual or business seeking clarification to visit its headquarters at the WAMA Building or any NRA office nationwide.
