In a groundbreaking initiative, One Billion Rising-SL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs (MoGCA), has launched a program aimed at empowering female inmates in Sierra Leone.
The event, which took place on February 19, 2025, at the Freetown Women’s Correctional Centre, focused on ending violence against women and promoting mental well-being among incarcerated individuals.
The program gathered female inmates, correctional staff, and advocates for a day of workshops and discussions designed to raise awareness about gender-based violence and the importance of rehabilitation.
Participants engaged in various activities that emphasized unity andresilience, working together to foster a supportive environment for women facing challenges both inside and outside the prison system.
