Must Read

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has formally acknowledged the Sierra Leone People’s Party’s (SLPP) decision to withdraw its request for the Commission’s supervision of its executive re-run elections.

In an official letter dated March 19, 2025, addressed to the SLPP National Secretary General, the PPRC confirmed receipt of the party’s communication, which was jointly signed by National Secretary General Umaru Koroma and National Chairman Dr. Prince Alex Harding.

While noting the SLPP’s decision, the Commission emphasized that it would continue to monitor the re-run elections to ensure adherence to all legal and procedural requirements, in accordance with its statutory mandate under Section 12(1)(2)(a-f) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022.

The PPRC further reminded the SLPP of its obligations under Section 35(2) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which mandates that the internal organization of all political parties must align with democratic principles and constitutional provisions. PPRC urged the party to ensure that its electoral processes remain guided by its constitution and the established rules and regulations governing executive elections.

To facilitate the PPRC’s oversight role, the Commission has instructed the SLPP to submit its election timelines at least three working days before the scheduled re-run elections. This measure aims to ensure effective monitoring and compliance with democratic standards.

Reaffirming its commitment to a transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process, the PPRC extended its best wishes to the SLPP in conducting its re-run elections.
