Hawa Madiana Hunt, a reality TV personality, appeared before Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 on Monday, January 20, 2025, as her defence counsel filed a no-case submission against charges of insulting President Bio and First Lady Fatima Bio.
Magistrate Santigie Bangura reserved his ruling on whether the case will proceed to the High Court, remanding Hunt until Wednesday, January 22.
The prosecution alleges that Hunt transmitted insulting messages via Facebook posts in April 2024, which they claim incited public disorder and defamed the First Family.
Defence counsel Lawyer Rashid Dumbuya argued the case lacks merit, citing insufficient evidence, procedural irregularities, and jurisdictional issues. He contended that the charges do not align with offences under the Cyber Security and Crime Act and urged the court to strike out the matter.
State Counsel Yusif Isaac Sesay countered, asserting that the case followed proper legal procedures and that evidence, including a police confession, supports the charges.
The case, which has drawn widespread public attention, now centers on Magistrate Bangura’s decision regarding the case’s progression.
