Sierra Leone receives €150 million from British government every year

On Thursday 3rd October 2019, the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Simon Mustard has said Sierra Leone is receiving one hundred and fifty million (€150,000,000) pound starlings through aid every year.

The newly appointed British High Commissioner made this statement while speaking to journalists at his office, at the British high commission, Freetown. He said the aforementioned money is directed to education, health and good governance.

He added that the Brexit deal is making things very difficult in Britain- “but that would not cut down the AID the British government is giving to Sierra Leone.”

Siemon also stated that the British going out of the European Union (EU) would not affect the AID that is coming from the EU in any way.

He admired the strides Sierra Leone has made in lots of areas, including but not limited to the security sectors, and that he will be focusing on how to give more support to improve the security sector in the country.

He said Sierra Leone and Britain have a very strong link, adding that the British government have more diplomats in Sierra Leone at the moment more than the last seven years.

He also mentioned that his main agenda within the next two to three years is to build the partnership between the two countries, in terms of giving security advise and the increase in export of Sierra Leone produce.
