The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has voiced concern after journalist Thomas Dixon, Editor of the New Age newspaper and Chairman of the Guild of Newspaper Editors, was questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday.
The interrogation followed a complaint filed by Leone Rock Metal Group, accusing Dixon of “cyberstalking and bullying.” He was later released on bail of NLe 100,000 after several hours of questioning. SLAJ said it stepped in to ensure his rights were respected during the process.

In its statement, SLAJ acknowledged the role of due process but warned that applying the 2022 Cyber Security and Crime Act against journalists risks creating an atmosphere of intimidation. The association noted that such actions could undermine press freedom by discouraging independent reporting.
Reaffirming its position, SLAJ pledged solidarity with Dixon and other media practitioners, stressing its commitment to defending press freedom, supporting journalists facing legal challenges, and promoting a safe environment for independent journalism.
