SLFA President, Officials Released as Congress Proceeds Amid Corruption Investigation

Must Read

On Friday, 4th April 2025, Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Thomas Daddy Brima, Acting Secretary-General Mohamed Benson Bawoh, and Finance Officer Ibrahim Bah were released from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after being detained over alleged corruption charges by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Following his release, Brima maintained his innocence, urging the ACC to substantiate their claims. He emphasized his commitment to football development in Sierra Leone and stated that his leadership has focused on making the game better for all.

Addressing the situation, ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala dismissed suggestions that the investigation was politically or congress-related, revealing that it had been ongoing for months.

“If anyone believes we are just starting this now, they are mistaken. We have been investigating this for the past five months. Thomas Daddy Brima (SLFA President), Benson Bawoh (Acting General Secretary), and Ibrahim Bah (Finance Manager) have been coming to the ACC regularly over this period. This is not a congress affair,” Kaifala stated.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the SLFA has confirmed that its Ordinary Congress will take place as scheduled on Saturday, 5th April 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Freetown, with a revised start time of 2:00 PM instead of the originally planned 9:00 AM. The Association has assured stakeholders that the Congress will be conducted in accordance with SLFA statutes to ensure a constructive and forward-looking engagement.

Meanwhile, the Premier League Board (PLB) has confirmed that the corruption probe will not impact league operations. The Leone Rock Premier League will continue as planned, with the PLB urging all stakeholders to remain focused on the game while legal proceedings take their course.
