Freetown, Sierra Leone – The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Hospital is currently experiencing a major boost in healthcare delivery through a partnership with the Surgeon in Action Foundation, which has provided both critical medical services and key equipment valued at over $70,000.
Since their arrival on Friday, May 2, 2025, the medical team from the foundation has successfully performed 88 free surgical operations. According to ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, 57 of these procedures benefited police officers, while the remainder served police family members and community residents. The team is targeting over 217 surgeries during their mission.

The donation, which includes an advanced anesthesia machine and other vital medical tools, was formally acknowledged during a meeting on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) at Kingtom Police Barracks.
Dr. Konteh further noted that the foundation has an ongoing relationship with the SLP Hospital. In addition to previous equipment donations, the foundation is currently sponsoring a Sierra Leonean police medical doctor for specialized training in Uganda.
Francisco Gomez Marquez, team lead for Surgeon in Action, expressed his appreciation for the warm reception in Sierra Leone. He praised the leadership of IGP William Fayia Sellu and commended the professionalism of the hospital staff. Marquez confirmed that the surgeries are proceeding smoothly and said the entire team is proud to contribute to improving healthcare in the country.

IGP Sellu extended profound gratitude to the Surgeon in Action team, describing the partnership as transformative for the SLP Hospital. He emphasized that the collaboration has not only benefited police personnel but also members of the wider community.
The support in both services and equipment has significantly upgraded the status of the SLP Hospital. The foundation’s investment and dedication have enhanced healthcare access and improved the welfare of officers, their families, and surrounding communities.

He also revealed that the hospital’s expanded services and training opportunities, aided by this partnership, have positioned it to function as a teaching hospital, thereby elevating the quality of medical education and service delivery.
On behalf of the Sierra Leone Police Executive Management Board, IGP Sellu thanked the Surgeon in Action Foundation for their continued commitment and expressed hope for ongoing collaboration to further improve healthcare within the force and beyond.
