SLPP Caution MPs Against Interference in Executive Elections

As the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) prepares for its upcoming executive elections, the party leadership has issued a strong warning to its Members of Parliament (MPs), cautioning them against interfering in the upcoming executive elections.

In a memo dated 6th February 2025 addressed to all SLPP Party members involved in the electoral process, the party leadership stressed that the Rules and Regulations for the Conduct of Executive Elections, published on February 5, 2021 (No. 6 Govt Notice No. 22), must be strictly followed without external influence.

The party further reminded all executives to familiarize themselves with and strictly follow the election guidelines outlined in the party’s constitution and the National Executive Council (NEC) resolutions, adding that any deviation from these regulations will not be tolerated, and those found in breach may face suspension or further disciplinary measures.

Candidates vying for leadership positions were urged to conduct their campaigns ethically, avoiding any form of manipulation, intimidation, or coercion, insisting that all campaigns must be based on positive and respectful engagement, in a bid to ensure that the election environment remains peaceful.

“Any conduct of an election that violates these instructions and or the Rules and Regulations, will not be accepted and the secretariat will have no other option but to send an independent body to oversee the conduct of the election in that area,” the memo stated.

SLPP also mentioned that all election results must be submitted on the same day in accordance with the official regulations, with electronic submissions permitted and hard copies required the following day.

The SLPP further emphasized the importance of impartial conflict resolution during the election process, urging all party members to uphold the principles of unity, respect, and integrity.
