SLPP set national delegates conference for May

The National Publicity Secretary of Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Lahai Lawrence Leema, has on Monday, 25th January, 2021, disclosed that the party has agreed on a timetable scheduling the 21st -22nd May 2021 for its National Delegate Conference which will be held in Bo City, Southern Headquarter town of Sierra Leone.

The SLPP National Executive Committee (NEC) last weekend met in Kenema in a bid to prepare the party for executive elections and fill vacancy positions. Positions to be filled are for the National Auditor, National Young Generation Leader and some vacant constituency positions.

Leema explained in an interview that after series of deliberations and amendments the party agreed during the NEC meeting to start the process with Zonal and Sectional Elections on 28th February, Chiefdom Executive Elections on 6th March, Constituency Elections on 13th March, District Elections on 20th March and Regional Elections on 27th March 2021.

He furthered that after conducting the aforementioned elections the party on 3rd April 2021 would hold a National Young Generation Council Conference in which the executive of the National Young Generation would be elected, and a week after that would be a Conference for the party’s Women’s Wing on 10th April 2021.

Leema said a NEC meeting would be held on 17th April 2021 to validate the delegate list of the party that would be published for 21 days in compliance with the Supreme Court ruling of Alie Bangura and Somanoh Karpen before the National Delegate Conference in Bo City.

“In the National Delegate Conference, a confirmation of the Leader of the party would be made” he added.

He also mentioned that during the NEC meeting, President Julius Maada Bio, who also doubles as Leader of the party spoke about unity in the party, and “how we can show that we are a cultured party that shows difference while in governance.”

He said President Bio talked about discipline in the party and how to make the party functional and viable for this generation and the next generation.
