Sierra Leone’s football governing body has dismissed Mohamed Kallon as head coach of the national men’s team, the Leone Stars, effective immediately.
The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) said the decision follows a comprehensive review of the team’s technical, administrative, and strategic direction, describing the move as necessary to align with the association’s long-term development goals.
“All administrative measures relating to this transition will be implemented immediately,” the SLFA said in a statement, acknowledging Kallon’s contributions during his time in charge.
Kallon, one of Sierra Leone’s most celebrated footballers, was appointed to the role in February 2025 with a mandate to revitalize the Leone Stars and build toward qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. He inherited a squad struggling for both results and FIFA ranking, amid wider structural difficulties within the country’s football administration.
In seven matches under his leadership, Kallon recorded three wins, two draws, and two losses. His tenure included a notable victory over Guinea-Bissau in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, though defeats against higher-ranked sides, including Egypt, tempered expectations. Sierra Leone’s FIFA ranking edged up from 120th to 119th out of 211 nations following recent friendly matches in Azerbaijan.
The SLFA wished Kallon well in his future endeavors as it begins the process of appointing a new head coach ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
