EU Launches €1 Million MEDIA Project to Strengthen Press Freedom in Sierra Leone

The European Union has launched the Media Empowerment for Democracy, Inclusion, and Accountability (MEDIA) project, a €1 million initiative to support media freedom in Sierra Leone.

The EU officially announced the launch of the project in a Facebook post on the EU Sierra Leone page on Tuesday, 18th March, 2025.

Led by BBC Media Action Sierra Leone, the project is a collaboration with the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the World Association of News Publishers, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, IRN Sierra Leone, and the Media Reform Coordinating Group.

The initiative focuses on enhancing media quality, particularly in community radio, while addressing misinformation and strengthening independent journalism to support democracy and accountability in Sierra Leone.
