NRA Enforces Banking Verification for Customs Clearance

Must Read

Sierra Leone’s National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Thursday, 14th August 2025, introduced a new requirement making banking verification mandatory for all customs-related payments.

Importers, clearing agents, and the wider public must now present bank deposit slips to designated Customs Officers for authentication before clearance procedures can proceed.

The directive follows a meeting between the NRA, commercial banks, and Clearing and Forwarding Agencies. According to the Authority, the measure is designed to ensure payments are properly verified before consignments are cleared, reducing risks of errors, discrepancies, financial losses, and operational delays.
